This half day seminar is jointly hosted by the Alan Turing Institute, Northumbria University’s Centre for Evidence and Criminal Justice Studies and the Sentencing Academy.
This in person seminar begins at 13:00pm and is taking place at:
Enigma 2.0, British Library, 96 Euston Rd., London NW1 2DB
About this event:
This seminar will explore the current and proposed future uses of AI in sentencing and more broadly the management of offenders. The event is intended to present different perspectives on the use of AI in this context and raise awareness of, and provoke engagement with, the ongoing debates in this area.
The event starts at 13:00 with a light buffet lunch, where you will have the opportunity to network with a diverse range of individuals interested in the use of AI in criminal justice and sentencing.
The seminar will bring together academics, policymakers, practitioners and computer scientists. There will be two sessions addressing different themes relating to AI in sentencing, with a short break in-between. After the presentations, there will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.
The first session will discuss the use of AI in sentencing from a technical perspective, including speakers from the Alan Turing Institute, Northumbria University and the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation.
The second session will explore the issues for practice arising from the use of AI in sentencing and includes speakers from legal practice and the Sentencing Academy.
We will record the event for our internal purpose only of producing an event summary which will be made publicly available. Contributions will be non-attributable and Chatham House Rule will apply.
